2015 Badminton World Cup - 5 Facts you may not have known.

The most presitgious Badminton Event takes place on an annual basis, this year, it's in Jakarta, Indonesia on August 10-16. The Badminton World Championships was first introduced in 1977, the only year it does not take place is during an Olympic Game Year. It has seen many changes from its introduction where it was originally a tri-annual then a bi-annual event. Now for the past 10 years, its an annual event.

Just like in tennis, players compete in singles, doubles and mixed doubles matches. Majority of winners came from China and Indonesia massing 73 medals of 89 possibles medals to be won in its history.

So heres the 5 interesting facts

1. No European Country has hosted the Badminton World Cup

2. Only one non Chinese or Indonesian player has won the mens single title - Prakash Padukone from India in 1981

3. Only one European has won any of the singles competitions - Lene Koppen from Denmark in 1982

4. 82% of medals have been won by China or Indonesia

5. Indonesia has hosted the most world championships with 7 events.
